Replay: The top 5 games for virtual photography and screenshots in 2021

It was a massive year for Picle in 2021, we launched the platform and were overwhelmed with screenshots and virtual photography from the gaming community. Here we replay the year and explore the most popular games on our platform in 2021.

Red Dead Redemption 2

As no surprise, the number one game for virtual photography was Red Dead Redemption 2. This was by far the most popular game on the platform in 2021. The 2018 game by Rockstar Games has all the elements required for taking amazing screenshots within its vast, atmospheric landscapes of America’s unforgiving heartland. Epic sky and landscape shots seem to be a popular subject here.

The Last of Us Part II

The second most popular game on Picle was The Last of Us Part II. The 2020 game developed by Naughty Dog set is 5 years after the events of The Last of Us. Close-up portraits of Ellie feature prominently among the uploaded screenshots.

Ghost of Tsushima

Third on last years list is Ghost of Tsushima. This 2020 game by Sucker Punch Productions where you wage an unconventional war for the freedom of 1274's Japan. This game proved very popular for entries to our Screenshot Of The Year 2021 Prize. Even providing use with the winner umbrashots' dramatic image of Jin Sakai on horseback. Full body portraits are popular screenshots for this game.

Horizon Zero Dawn

Fourth place on our popular list is our oldest game at 5-years old, Horizon Zero Dawn. The 2017 game by Guerrilla Games allows artists to take photos of a vibrant and lush world inhabited by mysterious mechanized creatures. The most popular themes of the virtual photography were action and portrait shots of the protagonist Aloy.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla

In fifth place, but by no means the loser is Assassin's Creed Valhalla. This 2020 release from Ubisoft gifts virtual photographers with a dynamic and beautiful open world set against the brutal backdrop of England’s Dark Ages with Eivor, a legendary Viking raider. Again portraits are a popular theme among the screenshots, as well as a cheeky white fox.
